Guest Speaker: Gigi Best Richardson

Gigi Best is an author, historian, genealogist, professional speaker and antiquarian bookstore owner. She will present on family research and “ Ancestral Surprises: Connecting the Dots in Early Military, Land and Voting Records”.
Gigi is the recipient of SDUSMP’s Phyllis Wheatley Literary Award for “Thomas the Melungeon: His Family of Free Persons of Color Civil and Revolutionary War Patriots.” This genealogical and historical work is featured in many Genealogical Libraries including, DAR; John Germany, Tampa; NC Archives and Jefferson Davis Presidential Library.
Gigi is currently writing two additional historical novels: “Nathan Best: from Enslaved Body Servant to Confederate Courier” and “Chapin’s Forty Acres.”
She is a member of: Phi Alpha Theta, Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society; Order of the First Families North Carolina; Board of Directors, Sons & Daughters U.S. Middle Passage; Florida Branch Governor, Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims; Daughters of American Revolution; Daughters Founders and Patriots of America; Colonial Dames 17th Century; Colonial Dames America; Society New England Women; Daughters Union Veterans Civil War. As a genealogist, Gigi has proven her “Best,” “Hardy,” “Sutton,” “Durant,” and “Tilden” ancestors to 1583 and her FPOC, “Lucas/Locust” ancestors to 1806.
