Participants can choose between the walk/run or bootcamp
The 5K Walk/Run for Health kicks off the morning of the first day of the 2-Day Music Fest and is held in honor of Mrs. Felecia Ann Wintons. She was one of the founding members of the Festival and lost her battle with Breast Cancer in 2009.
The purpose of the walk is to emphasize healthy living while educating the community about health disparities among African-Americans. Throughout the years the walk has been a positive and motivating addition to the festival and the community. Individuals, families, friends, companies, and pets can join hundreds of others as we honor survivors and pay respects to those who have succumbed to diseases that affect the black and brown communities.
A warm-up exercise performance will happen prior to the walk/run.
Fitness Bootcamp with Body by Chinyere
For those who don’t want to participate in the 5K, we are offering a fitness bootcamp this year! The bootcamp is a high intensity class where everyone will be constantly moving at rapid motions doing all forms of workout intervals that incorporate a mix of cardio, strength, power, speed, stamina, balance & flexibility which would target the arms, core and legs. The Bootcamp is for anyone who has never worked out before, lives a sedentary lifestyle or practices fitness exercises at least three days a week. It is for the person who is underweight, overweight or of normal weight. It is for anyone who is suffering from any form of illnesses or joint ailments such as Obesity, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Cancer, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Arthritis, Lower Back Pain, Knee and Hip Injury, to name a few.
The bootcamp will be led by fitness guru, Chinyere Sam. Chinyere is has been a competitive athlete for over 17 years. She is a Certified Aerobics Instructor & Personal Trainer with endorsements for Step Aerobics, Kickboxing Aerobics and Group Exercise by the International Fitness Association (IFA). In addition, Chinyere is certified in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) & AED (Automated External Defibrillators).
